EV charging Point Grant for Landlords

Landlords, tenants and flat owners can now benefit from a grant that will make it easier to fit an electric vehicle (EV) charging point in rented properties.

Whilst the OZEV grant for homeowners (EVHS) ended in April 2022 a new scheme for residential and commercial landlords, the EV Charging Point Grant for Landlords has since been launched by the government. As electric car sales increase so is the need for home charging facilities. The new grant offers upto £350 to landlords who install an EV Charging Point to their rental property.

Being able to charge at home is a big positive in EV ownership, but it is rare to find chargers installed on rented properties because tenants cannot make changes to a property without permission and landlords have little incentive to fit them.

Data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) shows there are currently 460,000 electric vehicles on the UK’s roads and so far in 2022 there has been 77,000 new EV registrations an increase of 88% over the same period in 2021.

As tenants move over to electric vehicles the need for a home Fast EV Charging Point installed could be high on the priority list for their next home and could make the difference between a successful let or a long-term void.

Wil-Lec GRP Ltd Managing Director Steve Wilson said “The new grant is a great opportunity for landlords to add an EV charging point to their rental premises. With electric car ownership massively increasing more perspective tenants will be looking for this essential feature on their next home maybe declining to rent homes without a charger in preference for one that does.”

Wil-Lec is the areas leading installer of Fast EV Charging Points and will help landlords apply for the grant and ensure their installation is compliant with OZEV legislation. Wil-Lec GRP Ltd is authorized by OZEV to install EV charging points under the EVHS.
