Electric vehicles sales boom as diesel car sales plummet

Latest car sales for June 2022 supplied by newautomotive.org show electric car sales outselling diesel car sales by nearly two to one.

Whilst the chip shortage has affected car sales in general, total UK car registrations are down by 26% with waiting lists for some models exceeding 40 weeks until delivery date.

Demand for electric vehicles is increasing due to constantly rising fuel prices as well as a wide range of new models launched by car manufacturers in particular from Korean & far eastern manufacturers including Kia, Hyundai and MG.

Wil-Lec GRP managing director Steve Wilson said “The increasing electric vehicle sales has seen higher enquiries for fast EV charging points resulting in more installations for both domestic and business customers. Businesses are embracing the new technology and see adding charging points as a quality perk for staff to enjoy.

Domestic users benefit from cheaper overnight home charging provided by a small number of energy providers as well as the convenience that home charging brings with a fully charged vehicle in the morning.”

Wil-Lec are the areas leading independent installers of fast EV charging points, supplying chargers by Andersen, Myenergi and Hypervolt. Wil-Lec GRP Ltd are approved by OZEV for Fast EV Charging Point installations in the UK.
