Todays budget and the Energy Price Guarantee

The UK government has announced today 15th March 2023 that it will be extending the energy price cap until July 2023. The cap was originally introduced in 2022 to protect consumers from overpaying for their energy bills. The cap limits the amount that energy companies can charge for their standard tariffs.

The announcement comes after the energy regulator Ofgem warned that energy bills could rise to £3,280 per year due to rising wholesale gas prices. The cap extension aims to provide stability and protection for consumers during these uncertain times.

The energy price cap has been a controversial topic since its introduction. Supporters argue that it protects vulnerable consumers from being exploited by energy companies. However, critics argue that it discourages competition and innovation in the energy market.
